The son, identified as 31-year-old Alika Unga Suliafu, became angry on October 21 when his father returned to his apartment in Davis County, Utah, with an incorrect order of wings. He said it wasn’t what he wanted, an argument ensued and the son later shot his father, according to court documents obtained.
On Monday night, November 8, the New York Post reported that the argument between father and son escalated. According to investigators, at one point Suliafu brought a gun from another room and pointed it directly at his father, who begged him not to shoot.
However, the son could not control his rage and shot at his father. The instant Suliafu fired the weapon, his father ducked so the bullet went through a wall and into a neighbor’s apartment, where it hit a dishwasher, the newspaper reported.
After the first shot, Suliafu’s father pounced on his son and tried to snatch the gun from him, investigators said. As they struggled, Suliafu fired two more shots at the ceiling, which lodged in the floor of the apartment above them, the Post said.
Then the father managed to remove the magazine from the weapon while both continued fighting before the police arrived at the scene, where they found the father. His injuries matched his description of the events. Suliafu had escaped from the house before the agents arrived, but on Thursday, October 28, they found him, arrested him, held him without bail and charged him with attempted murder, domestic violence and criminal firing of a firearm. They also stated that court documents indicated that he had a history of mental illness and that he posed a significant threat to the community.
